Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro is set to continue using the anodized aluminum casing introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro, despite ongoing concerns about its durability. This decision has sparked discussions among users and industry observers, especially considering the mixed feedback from the previous model.
The shift to aluminum alloy in the iPhone 17 Pro was initially praised for its superior heat dissipation capabilities, a crucial factor for high-performance devices. However, users soon reported issues such as paint peeling and surface chipping, particularly around the camera module’s raised edges. These problems were more pronounced in certain color variants, like Cosmic Orange, leading to visible discoloration and wear over time.
Apple has addressed these concerns by classifying them as normal wear and tear, attributing the issues to the inherent characteristics of the aluminum material. Consequently, warranty claims related to these cosmetic imperfections have often been denied, leaving some customers dissatisfied.
