iOS 27 to Introduce Custom Passes and Bill Splitting in Apple Wallet

Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 update is set to enhance the Apple Wallet app with two significant new features: the ability to create custom digital passes and a streamlined bill-splitting function.

Create Custom Digital Passes

Users will soon be able to convert physical items such as gym memberships, rewards cards, and event tickets into digital passes within the Wallet app. By tapping the “+” button, users can scan a QR code or manually input details to generate a pass. The app will offer three templates: “Standard” (orange), “Membership” (blue), and “Events” (green), allowing customization of images, colors, and text for easy identification.

Streamlined Bill Splitting

iOS 27 will introduce a feature that simplifies splitting expenses. Users can take a photo of a receipt, assign items to individuals, and the app will calculate each person’s share, including tax and tip. Payment requests can then be sent via Apple Cash, Apple’s peer-to-peer payment service. This functionality will be accessible through both the Wallet and Messages apps and will integrate with Apple Watch for convenient approvals.

These enhancements aim to make Apple Wallet more versatile and user-friendly, reducing reliance on third-party apps for managing passes and splitting bills. However, as Apple Cash is currently available only in the United States, the bill-splitting feature may be limited to U.S. users initially. The official unveiling of iOS 27 is expected at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8, with a public release anticipated in September.
