Meta’s AI Agent for WhatsApp Business Now Available Globally

Meta has announced the global rollout of its AI-powered customer support bot, now called Meta Business Agent, within WhatsApp Business. This expansion follows nearly two years of testing AI agents in countries like India and Mexico.

The Meta Business Agent is designed to handle various customer service tasks, including answering questions, recommending products, booking appointments, qualifying sales leads, and escalating queries to human representatives when necessary. Additionally, the AI agent is now integrated into Instagram Direct Messages, broadening its reach across Meta’s platforms.

Meta is also testing a feature that provides businesses with daily briefings summarizing overnight chats and offering insights. This functionality is currently being trialed with select accounts on WhatsApp Business, Instagram Pro, Messenger, and Meta Business Suite.

Future enhancements for the Meta Business Agent include conducting market research, highlighting product features, managing calendars, and connecting with tools to extract competitive insights. Meta is also developing a platform that allows larger enterprises to create custom agents compatible with systems like Shopify, Zendesk, and Shopee.

To monetize this service, Meta plans to include the AI agent in certain tiers of its WhatsApp Business Premium subscription. Large businesses will be charged based on the number of tokens they use, aligning with WhatsApp’s existing revenue model that relies on businesses paying for messaging and click-to-WhatsApp ads.

By integrating AI into WhatsApp Business, Meta aims to transform the platform into a comprehensive workflow tool for small and medium-sized enterprises. This move not only enhances customer engagement but also opens new revenue streams for Meta, positioning WhatsApp as a central hub for business communications.
