Apple Settles Siri Delay Lawsuit for $250M; Compensation for Affected iPhone Users

Apple Settles Siri Feature Delay Lawsuit with $250 Million Payout

In a significant legal development, Apple has agreed to a $250 million settlement to resolve a class-action lawsuit concerning the delayed rollout of promised enhancements to its virtual assistant, Siri. This settlement aims to compensate affected users and address shareholder concerns over the postponement of these anticipated features.

Background on the Siri Enhancements:
During the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2024, Apple unveiled plans for a substantial upgrade to Siri as part of its Apple Intelligence initiative. The proposed enhancements included advanced in-app actions, improved contextual awareness, and a suite of AI-driven capabilities designed to provide a more intuitive user experience. These features were prominently showcased in Apple’s marketing campaigns, generating considerable excitement among consumers and investors.

The Delay and Subsequent Lawsuit:
Despite the initial enthusiasm, Apple announced delays in implementing the Siri enhancements, leading to dissatisfaction among users and shareholders. The postponement prompted a class-action lawsuit filed in December 2025, alleging that Apple misrepresented the timeline for the feature rollout, resulting in financial losses for shareholders and unmet expectations for consumers.

Settlement Details:
On May 5, 2026, Apple disclosed the terms of the settlement, which includes a $250 million fund to compensate affected U.S. customers. Eligible individuals—those who purchased iPhone models supporting Apple Intelligence between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025—are entitled to receive $25 per device. This encompasses the entire iPhone 16 series, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Depending on the number of claims submitted, compensation could increase to as much as $95 per device. A portion of the settlement will also cover administrative expenses and legal fees.

Claim Submission Process:
To participate in the settlement, eligible customers must provide proof of purchase, the serial number of the qualifying device, their phone number, and Apple Account information. Apple has announced that it will begin accepting claims within 45 days from the settlement date.

Apple’s Official Statement:
In response to the settlement, Apple emphasized its commitment to delivering innovative products and services, stating:

Since the launch of Apple Intelligence, we have introduced dozens of features across many languages that are integrated across Apple’s platforms, relevant to what users do every day, and built with privacy protections at every step. These include Visual Intelligence, Live Translation, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Clean Up, and many more.

Apple has reached a settlement to resolve claims related to the availability of two additional features. We resolved this matter to stay focused on doing what we do best, delivering the most innovative products and services to our users.

Ongoing Legal Challenges:
While this settlement addresses one aspect of the legal issues surrounding Siri’s delayed features, Apple continues to face additional lawsuits. Notably, South Korea’s National Pension Service has initiated a separate class-action suit, alleging that the delays have resulted in significant stock market losses. Apple has contested these claims, seeking dismissal of the lawsuit by arguing that the allegations are unsubstantiated.

Looking Ahead:
As of now, the anticipated Siri enhancements have yet to be released to the public. They are expected to debut with the iOS 27 update, slated for announcement at WWDC 2026 on June 8. Apple’s handling of these delays and the associated legal challenges will likely continue to be a focal point for both consumers and investors in the coming months.
