Gemini App’s ‘Temporary Chat’ Icon Undergoes Unexpected Redesign
The Gemini app has recently introduced a notable change to its ‘Temporary Chat’ feature, altering the icon that users have become accustomed to. This feature, akin to Incognito Mode, allows users to engage in conversations without leaving a trace. Historically, the ‘Temporary Chat’ was represented by a small chat bubble outlined with a dotted line, a design that has remained consistent since its inception.
In a recent server-side update, this familiar icon has been replaced. The new design features a small oval with a pencil protruding from it, positioned in the same top-right corner of a new chat window. Upon tapping this icon, the original dotted chat bubble appears centrally on the page, accompanied by a brief description of the ‘Temporary Chat’ function. The top icon is highlighted in blue, maintaining some visual continuity with the previous design.
This sudden change has sparked curiosity among users. The new icon’s rounded appearance aligns more closely with the overall aesthetic of the Gemini app, which features rounded text boxes and options at the bottom. However, the original dotted chat icon was immediately recognizable, even if it appeared somewhat boxy.
As of now, this redesign appears exclusive to the mobile version of the Gemini app, with no changes observed in the desktop version. The rest of the app’s user interface remains intact, with features like Notebooks still accessible in the menu sidebar.
There has been no official statement regarding this icon change. While it may seem like a minor adjustment, such unexpected alterations can be disconcerting for users who rely on visual cues for navigation. Whether this redesign is a permanent change or a temporary test remains to be seen.
