AI-Driven Traffic to U.S. Retailers Jumps 393% in Q1 2026, Spurs Revenue and Engagement Growth

AI-Driven Traffic to U.S. Retailers Surges 393% in Q1 2026, Boosting Revenue and Engagement

In the first quarter of 2026, U.S. retailers experienced a remarkable 393% increase in website traffic originating from artificial intelligence (AI) sources compared to the same period in 2025. This surge, as reported by Adobe Analytics, underscores the growing influence of AI assistants in shaping online shopping behaviors.

Adobe’s comprehensive analysis, encompassing over 1 trillion visits to U.S. retail sites, reveals that AI-driven traffic not only increased in volume but also enhanced the quality of user engagement. Consumers arriving via AI channels exhibited a 42% higher conversion rate than those from traditional sources, marking a significant reversal from March 2025, when AI traffic converted 38% less effectively.

Further insights indicate that AI-referred visitors spent 48% more time on retail websites and viewed 13% more pages per visit. This heightened engagement translated into a 37% increase in revenue per visit (RPV) for AI-driven traffic, a stark contrast to the previous year when non-AI traffic was 128% more valuable.

Despite these positive trends, Adobe’s findings highlight a critical area for improvement: approximately 25% of content on retailers’ homepages and category pages, and about 34% of individual product pages, are not optimized for large language models (LLMs). This lack of optimization may hinder AI systems from effectively accessing and presenting product information to potential customers.

To capitalize on the burgeoning AI-driven traffic, retailers are encouraged to enhance their websites’ compatibility with LLMs. By doing so, they can ensure that their products are accurately represented and easily discoverable through AI assistants, thereby maintaining a competitive edge in the evolving digital marketplace.
