TikTok Users Face U.S. Outage Due to Oracle Data Center Malfunction, Second Incident Since U.S. Operations Sale

TikTok Faces Second U.S. Outage Due to Oracle Data Center Issues

On March 3, 2026, numerous TikTok users across the United States encountered disruptions while using the app. The company attributed these issues to a malfunction at an Oracle-operated data center. This incident marks the second significant outage linked to Oracle’s infrastructure since the sale of TikTok’s U.S. operations.

TikTok’s official communication on X (formerly Twitter) acknowledged the problem, stating that creators might experience delays in posting content as Oracle works to resolve the issue. The company expressed appreciation for users’ patience and assured them of ongoing updates.

User reports on Downdetector indicated that the disruptions began before 9 a.m. Eastern Time. Oracle’s own updates corroborated this timeline, confirming the onset of the outage around the same period.

Oracle is a key stakeholder in the TikTok USDS Joint Venture, holding an 80% ownership stake. This joint venture was established to comply with U.S. national security regulations, which mandated that ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, divest its American operations or face a ban within the United States.

This recent outage is not an isolated incident. Shortly after the finalization of the TikTok sale in January, the platform experienced a similar disruption. At that time, TikTok attributed the issues to a winter storm that impacted a major Oracle data center, leading to widespread service interruptions.

As of now, Oracle has not provided a detailed explanation for the cause of the March 3 outage. The recurrence of such issues raises concerns about the reliability of the infrastructure supporting TikTok’s U.S. operations.
