Cybercriminals Offer WhatsApp Crash Exploit for Sale on Dark Web
Recent findings from underground hacking forums have unveiled a concerning development: cybercriminals are advertising a script designed to crash WhatsApp across multiple operating systems. This exploit is being sold for $30, making it accessible to a broad audience, including individuals with limited technical expertise.
The script reportedly targets both Android and iOS platforms. On Android devices, it can cause the WhatsApp application to crash entirely. For iOS users, the exploit not only crashes the app but also freezes group chats, rendering that feature unusable. These cross-platform capabilities significantly amplify the potential impact, affecting a vast portion of WhatsApp’s user base.
In addition to crashing the application, the script includes disruptive features such as call and video call bombing, which inundate a target user with a rapid succession of incoming calls, making their device virtually unusable during the attack. The exploit also boasts pair spam capabilities, though specific details about this function remain unclear.
The ease of deployment is particularly alarming. The seller claims that the script can be executed via Termux, a terminal emulator and Linux environment app for Android. This means the attack can be launched directly from a mobile device without the need for a Virtual Private Server or complex infrastructure. The only requirement is a virtual phone number, adding a layer of anonymity to the attacker’s activities.
While the exact technical details of the vulnerability being exploited are not fully disclosed, the availability of such a tool on the dark web is a significant concern. Users are strongly advised to keep their WhatsApp applications updated to the latest version, as developers frequently release patches to address newly discovered security flaws and enhance application stability.
Security teams continue to monitor these forums to analyze emerging threats and provide timely warnings to the user community.
