Former GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke Launches Entire with Record-Breaking $60M Seed Funding
In a groundbreaking move within the developer tools sector, Thomas Dohmke, the former CEO of GitHub, has secured a record-setting $60 million seed funding for his new startup, Entire. This substantial investment, led by Felicis Ventures, values the company at $300 million, marking a significant milestone in the realm of developer tool startups.
Entire is dedicated to enhancing the management of code generated by AI agents, addressing the challenges developers face in integrating and overseeing AI-produced code. The company’s technology is built upon three core components:
1. Git-Compatible Database: This feature unifies AI-generated code, ensuring seamless integration with existing version control systems like Git, which are widely adopted by enterprises and platforms such as GitHub and GitLab.
2. Universal Semantic Reasoning Layer: Designed to facilitate collaboration among multiple AI agents, this layer enables them to work together more effectively, enhancing the overall development process.
3. AI-Native User Interface: Tailored for agent-to-human collaboration, this interface aims to streamline interactions between developers and AI agents, fostering a more intuitive and productive workflow.
The inaugural product from Entire, named Checkpoints, is an open-source tool that automatically associates each piece of software submitted by an AI agent with its creation context, including prompts and transcripts. This functionality allows developers to review, search, and gain insights into the AI’s decision-making process, promoting transparency and learning opportunities.
The surge in AI-generated code has presented challenges for developers, particularly in managing the sheer volume and varying quality of contributions. Open-source projects, in particular, have been inundated with code submissions that may be poorly designed or unusable. Entire aims to alleviate these issues by providing tools that help developers effectively manage and integrate AI-generated code.
Reflecting on the current landscape, Dohmke stated, We are living through an agent boom, and now massive volumes of code are being generated faster than any human could reasonably understand. The truth is, our manual system of software production — from issues, to git repositories, to pull requests, to deployment — was never designed for the era of AI in the first place.
Dohmke’s tenure as CEO of Microsoft’s GitHub spanned four years, during which he oversaw the rise of GitHub Copilot, a popular AI coding assistant. He departed GitHub in August 2025 to embark on this new venture, announcing his departure in a post on X at that time.
The seed funding round for Entire also saw participation from notable investors, including Madrona, M12, Basis Set, Harry Stebbings, Jerry Yang, and Olivier Pomel, founder and CEO of Datadog.
