Apple TV and Formula 1 Tease Possible Sequel to Acclaimed ‘F1: The Movie

Apple TV and Formula 1 Hint at Potential Sequel to ‘F1: The Movie’

During a recent Apple TV press event, Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services, and Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, hinted at the possibility of a sequel to the highly successful ‘F1: The Movie.’ The original film, which has garnered critical acclaim and multiple award nominations, has sparked discussions about continuing the story.

At the event, Cue and Domenicali addressed questions from the press. When asked about the potential for another Formula 1 movie, Domenicali responded, Stay tuned. We’re going to tell you something more in the future. Never say never. But we need to digest more the success of this movie because it was something unique. And if you want to think of a new one, it has to be really, very, very good. Therefore, if this will happen, it will not be for next year. But maybe next year we’re going to be here [at the press day], and hopefully we have something more to announce [then].

Cue added a lighthearted remark, highlighting Apple’s exclusive streaming rights for F1 races in the U.S.: I’ve got a great announcement for it. We’ve got 24 F1 movies this year on Apple TV, referencing the number of F1 races in the upcoming season. I don’t know the ending, and so it is the best unscripted drama that there could be in the world.

While no official confirmation was provided, the openness of both executives suggests a strong interest in developing a sequel. The original ‘F1: The Movie’ has been a significant success for Apple TV, becoming its most-watched film to date and receiving nominations for Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Film Editing at the upcoming Academy Awards. Additionally, the film has secured 15 awards to date, including a Best Country Solo Performance win at the recent Grammys.

Apple TV subscribers can watch ‘F1: The Movie’ on the platform, which is available for $12.99 per month and features a range of hit TV shows and movies.
