In an exciting development for soccer enthusiasts, Major League Soccer (MLS) has announced that all playoff matches for the 2025 season will be available to stream at no additional cost for Apple TV subscribers. This initiative allows fans to enjoy the high-stakes action without the need for an MLS Season Pass.
As the 2025 MLS season approaches its climax, the league is set to commence its playoff series. In a strategic move to promote the rebranded Apple TV subscription service, MLS has partnered with Apple to offer these crucial matches free of charge to current Apple TV subscribers. This decision mirrors a similar promotion from 2024, aiming to entice viewers who may have been hesitant to subscribe to the MLS Season Pass to consider it for the upcoming 2026 season.
In September, the MLS Season Pass underwent a significant price reduction, dropping to $25 for Apple TV subscribers and $29 for non-subscribers. This annual pricing adjustment is part of a broader strategy to boost sales, especially when compared to the standard season-long costs of $79 and $99, respectively.
The MLS Cup Playoffs are scheduled to kick off on October 22 with two Wild Card matches:
– Eastern Conference: Chicago Fire FC vs. Orlando City
– Western Conference: Portland Timbers vs. Real Salt Lake
The victors of these matches will advance to the Best of Three rounds, starting on October 24. The culmination of the playoffs, the MLS Cup match, is slated for December 6.
While Apple TV subscribers will have the privilege of streaming these matches, select playoff games will also be broadcast on Fox Sports in the United States, as well as TSN and RDS in Canada, ensuring a wide audience can partake in the excitement.
This announcement marks the second significant sports-related development for Apple TV in recent days. On October 17, it was revealed that Apple TV had secured the rights to broadcast Formula 1 races in the United States, further solidifying its position as a major player in sports broadcasting.
