YouTube Integrates Background Play Controls with Android Auto
YouTube has recently introduced support for Android Auto, enabling users to manage background audio playback directly from their vehicle’s interface. This integration allows drivers to play, pause, and skip entire videos using Android Auto’s media controls, including dashboard widgets and steering wheel buttons.
It’s important to note that this functionality is limited to audio controls; video playback on the Android Auto screen is not supported. To utilize this feature, a YouTube Premium subscription is required, as background play is exclusive to Premium members. As of February 2026, the Premium Lite plan, priced at $7.99 per month, includes background play, offering a more affordable option for users.
This update enhances the in-car entertainment experience by providing seamless control over YouTube’s audio content, catering to users who enjoy listening to podcasts, music, and other audio-centric videos during their drives.
