X Chat Reintroduces Voice Notes, Enhancing User Communication
X Chat, the direct messaging platform of social media giant X, has reinstated its Voice Notes feature, allowing users to send audio messages in both individual and group conversations. This functionality is accessible by tapping the voice input icon adjacent to the chat’s text box. Initially, users must press and hold the button to record; however, a press-and-hold followed by an upward swipe enables recording without continuous pressure.
The reintroduction of Voice Notes positions X Chat competitively among messaging applications where audio messaging is standard. This update is particularly significant following X Chat’s recent transition into a standalone app, reflecting X’s strategic shift from an all-encompassing everything app to offering specialized services. For instance, X Money, the company’s payment service, is also undergoing testing as a separate application.
Users had expressed dissatisfaction when the Voice Notes feature was previously removed during X Chat’s upgrade. The company had assured that the feature would return soon, and its reinstatement aligns with that commitment.
In addition to Voice Notes, X Chat offers features such as message editing and deletion, screenshot notifications, file sharing, voice and video calls, and disappearing messages. While X asserts that X Chat’s communications are end-to-end encrypted, security experts have raised concerns about its security compared to other encrypted messaging apps like Signal.
