WhatsApp Web to Introduce Group Voice and Video Calling Features
WhatsApp Web is set to bridge a significant functionality gap by introducing group voice and video calling capabilities. This development addresses a longstanding demand from users who rely on the browser-based version for professional and personal communication, especially on shared or work computers where installing desktop applications isn’t feasible.
Advancements in Group Calling on the Web
According to reports from WABetaInfo, Meta is actively developing support for group voice and video calls on WhatsApp Web. While the feature is still under development and not yet available to beta testers, it promises to allow users to join group calls seamlessly, irrespective of the device they are using.
This enhancement brings WhatsApp Web closer to achieving feature parity with its mobile and desktop counterparts. By enabling web-based calling, it eliminates the need for software installations, making it more accessible for users on various platforms.
Previously, WhatsApp had hinted at introducing web calling, but initial support was limited. The company is now refining the system to ensure full compatibility with group chats, aiming to provide a cohesive experience across all devices.
Participant Limits and Additional Features
The upcoming update is expected to support up to 32 participants in a group call. However, initial rollouts may have a lower limit, such as eight or 16 users, as WhatsApp fine-tunes performance and user experience.
In addition to group calls, WhatsApp is developing other calling tools for the web client. These include incoming call notifications, shareable call links, and the ability to schedule calls with specific names and descriptions. These features are currently under development and are anticipated to be introduced gradually.
