In the latest version of WhatsApp available on the App Store, users will notice that the familiar settings menu has been replaced. In its place, a new tab labeled You now displays the user’s current profile picture. Tapping this tab opens a refreshed interface where users can manage their identity, adjust privacy controls, and configure app preferences, maintaining all previous functionalities with an added personalized visual cue.
This design shift serves a practical purpose beyond aesthetics. Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, has been developing multi-account support for the platform. By replacing a static icon with a user profile picture, it becomes immediately clear which account is currently active. This approach mirrors the behavior seen in platforms like Instagram, allowing users to quickly identify the active account, thereby reducing confusion when switching between personal and business profiles.
In addition to the new navigation tab, WhatsApp is testing a larger visual update for the profile page itself. Some users are seeing a new default cover photo spanning the top of their screen. Currently, this acts as a large header to give the profile section more presence. While users cannot yet swap out this default background for a personal image, that functionality is expected to arrive in a future update.
It’s important to note that features like the cover photo and the new profile tab are still rolling out gradually. Therefore, it might take a few weeks before they appear on all devices.
