Unfulfilled Promises: The Missing Apple Intelligence Features

Apple’s AI advancements promised to make interactions smarter and more seamless, but several key features remain missing. Users were expecting groundbreaking improvements in voice assistance and automation, yet many of these capabilities have yet to arrive.

1. Smarter Siri with Personal Context
One of the most anticipated features was a smarter Siri that could understand personal context. The idea was to allow Siri to pull relevant details from messages, calendar events, photos, and files to provide more intuitive responses. For instance, users could ask about a flight a family member texted them or check if back-to-back meetings were feasible based on location data. However, this deeper understanding has yet to be implemented.

2. On-Screen Awareness
Another missing capability is Siri’s ability to process and act on information displayed on the screen. This would allow users to say things like, “Save this address to contacts,” or “Remind me about this article later,” without needing to manually copy and paste. While this level of awareness was expected to make Siri more useful, it has yet to become a reality.

3. AI-Powered In-App Actions
Apple’s AI vision included the ability for Siri to perform actions across different apps without needing manual shortcuts. Ideally, users could request tasks like, “Send my partner’s flight details,” and Siri would gather the information from one app and share it via another. However, without this seamless app-to-app interaction, users still have to set up custom shortcuts for similar tasks.

The absence of these features suggests that integrating AI at this level is more complex than initially thought. While some AI enhancements have arrived, many of the most exciting ones remain in limbo. Whether they will be introduced in future updates or delayed indefinitely remains to be seen.
