Teen Trio Arrested for $15,000 iPhone Theft at Cambridge Apple Store
In late January, a significant theft occurred at the Grand Arcade Apple Store in Cambridge, UK, where three teenagers allegedly stole 11 iPhones valued at approximately £11,000 (about $15,000). The incident unfolded when Cambridgeshire Police received a report from a concerned citizen about the theft. Subsequently, officers intercepted a white BMW on the M11 motorway, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The individuals apprehended include a 17-year-old male from Enfield, London, charged with theft from a shop and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order. Additionally, two 16-year-old males from London were charged with theft from a shop. All three are scheduled to appear in court on March 4.
This incident is part of a broader trend of thefts targeting Apple products. For instance, in Texas, a 24-year-old man was arrested on January 17 for allegedly committing two armed robberies involving iPhones on the same day. In one case, he reportedly held a seller at gunpoint in Arlington, while earlier that day, he was caught on video stealing a phone from another individual in Keller. The latter incident was documented by the victim, who records his transactions for safety.
In another notable case, British stage actor John Owen-Jones had his iPhone stolen in London and managed to trace it to Shenzhen, China, using the Find My iPhone feature. He documented his journey to recover the device, highlighting the global reach of stolen Apple products.
These incidents underscore the persistent issue of thefts targeting high-value Apple products. Retailers and consumers are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to safeguard their devices.
