Google’s Upcoming Screenless Fitbit Band Teased by Steph Curry
In a recent development, NBA star Steph Curry, who serves as Google’s Performance Advisor, has provided a sneak peek at an innovative Fitbit device that notably lacks a traditional screen. This teaser suggests a significant shift in Fitbit’s design philosophy, potentially introducing a minimalist approach to fitness tracking.
Curry shared a video on Instagram showcasing the new wearable. The device features a fabric band with a light gray center and orange accents on the sides, secured with a clasp. The clip hints at a new relationship with your health coming soon, culminating with the appearance of Google’s gradient ‘G’ logo.
According to Bloomberg, this forthcoming fitness band will offer basic features upon purchase. To access additional capabilities, users will need to subscribe to a paid service, presumably Fitbit Premium. The device is being developed under the Fitbit brand, indicating Google’s commitment to expanding its wearable technology offerings.
Historically, Fitbit’s product lineup has included displays on all modern trackers. The last device without a screen was the Flex 2, released in 2016, which utilized a series of circular indicator lights for user interaction. By reintroducing a screenless design, Fitbit appears to be positioning itself as a competitor to brands like Whoop, which also offer display-free fitness trackers.
As of now, the Inspire 3 is Fitbit’s most affordable tracker, priced at $99.95. The introduction of a screenless band could provide a more cost-effective option for consumers seeking essential fitness tracking features without the distractions of a display.
In October, during the preview of its personal health coach feature, Google announced plans for new Fitbit hardware slated for release in 2026. It remains to be seen whether this screenless band will be the sole product launch this year or if Fitbit will also unveil other devices, such as the anticipated Charge 7.
Curry’s high-profile teaser suggests that the launch of this new device may be imminent, signaling an exciting development in the wearable technology market.
