OpenAI Empowers Users to Personalize ChatGPT’s Tone and Enthusiasm
OpenAI has introduced a new feature that allows ChatGPT users to customize the chatbot’s warmth, enthusiasm, and use of emojis. This enhancement, announced via OpenAI’s official social media channels, is accessible through the Personalization menu, where users can adjust these attributes to More, Less, or Default settings.
This update builds upon previous customization options, such as setting a base style and tone, which includes Professional, Candid, and Quirky tones added in November. The ability to fine-tune ChatGPT’s responses addresses ongoing discussions about the chatbot’s tone. Earlier this year, OpenAI reverted an update deemed too sycophant-y and later modified GPT-5 to be warmer and friendlier following user feedback that the model felt colder and less engaging.
The introduction of these personalization features reflects OpenAI’s commitment to enhancing user experience by providing greater control over ChatGPT’s conversational style. By allowing users to tailor the chatbot’s responses, OpenAI aims to create more meaningful and comfortable interactions, catering to diverse user preferences.
