MKBHD’s ‘Panels’ Wallpaper App to Cease Operations by Year’s End
Marques Brownlee, widely recognized as MKBHD, has announced the impending shutdown of his ‘Panels’ wallpaper application, effective December 31, 2025. The app, which offered a curated selection of high-quality wallpapers, is being discontinued due to sustainability challenges.
MKBHD’s YouTube channel is renowned for its exceptional visuals and in-depth tech reviews. To complement this visual appeal, the ‘Panels’ app was introduced, providing users with custom wallpapers featured in his videos. Available on both the Google Play Store and the App Store, the app offered free access supported by ads, as well as a subscription model for an ad-free experience.
Despite achieving top rankings and amassing a significant number of downloads, the ‘Panels’ team found the app’s long-term viability unsustainable and unable to meet their envisioned goals. Consequently, they have decided to remove the app from both platforms by the end of the year.
For users with active annual subscriptions, the team has committed to initiating a refund process starting December 31, 2025. Subscribers will receive refunds for the remaining period of their subscriptions. Additionally, any wallpapers purchased through the app will remain accessible for download until the shutdown process is fully completed.
In a move to support the developer community, the ‘Panels’ team plans to release the app’s codebase post-shutdown. This initiative aims to allow other developers to build upon and innovate from where ‘Panels’ concluded.
