Meta AI App Climbs to No. 5 on App Store After Muse Spark Launch, Surging 52 Positions in a Day

Meta AI App Surges to No. 5 on App Store Following Muse Spark Launch

Meta’s AI application has experienced a remarkable surge in popularity, ascending from the 57th position to the 5th spot on the U.S. App Store within a single day. This significant leap follows the introduction of Muse Spark, Meta’s latest AI model, marking the inaugural release under the leadership of Alexandr Wang, the head of Meta’s Superintelligence Labs. Wang, formerly of Scale AI, was brought on board last year to revamp Meta’s AI initiatives.

According to data from market intelligence firm Appfigures, the launch of Muse Spark on Wednesday catalyzed a substantial increase in consumer interest, propelling the Meta AI app to its current high ranking. This surge indicates a significant influx of new installations.

Meta asserts that Muse Spark, accessible via both web and mobile platforms, represents a considerable advancement over its predecessor, the Llama 4 models. This development is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to compete with industry leaders such as OpenAI and Anthropic. These endeavors have involved substantial investments, including billions spent on recruiting AI talent and a $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI.

Muse Spark is designed to handle multimodal inputs, including voice, text, and images. It excels in various tasks, such as assisting users with health-related inquiries and solving complex problems in science and mathematics. Additionally, it supports visual coding, enabling users to create websites and mini-games based on prompts. The model can also deploy multiple subagents to address user queries efficiently.

Meta plans to extend Muse Spark’s integration to other platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta’s AI glasses, in the coming weeks. Alongside the model’s debut, the Meta AI mobile app and website have been updated with a refreshed interface, allowing users to switch between different modes depending on their tasks.

Despite this recent growth, the Meta AI app still trails behind other leading AI chatbots, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT (No. 1), Anthropic’s Claude (No. 2), and Google’s Gemini (No. 3).

Alexandr Wang highlighted the app’s rapid ascent in a post on X, noting that it had reached the 6th position overnight and was continuing to grow.

Appfigures reports that the Meta AI app has been downloaded a total of 60.5 million times worldwide across both the App Store and Google Play, with 25 million of those downloads occurring this year alone. Over the past five months, downloads have increased by 138% compared to the first five months after the app’s initial release. India has emerged as the top market for Meta AI downloads, followed by the United States, Brazil, Pakistan, and Mexico.
