Article Title: Jeff Bezos Returns as Co-CEO of AI Startup Project Prometheus
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is stepping back into an operational role as co-chief executive of Project Prometheus, a new artificial intelligence (AI) startup. This marks his first return to active management since departing Amazon’s helm in 2021. Project Prometheus has successfully secured $6.2 billion in funding, signaling strong investor confidence in its mission.
Bezos will share leadership responsibilities with Vik Bajaj, a prominent figure in the tech industry. Bajaj previously led Google’s life sciences division and co-founded Verily, a biotech startup under Alphabet. He also co-founded Foresite Labs, an AI-focused affiliate of investment firm Foresite Capital. Recently, Bajaj departed Foresite Labs to embark on the Project Prometheus venture.
Project Prometheus aims to develop AI products tailored for engineering and manufacturing sectors, including computers, aerospace, and automobiles. The startup’s focus is on AI for the physical economy, as stated on its LinkedIn page. Its approach is reminiscent of Periodic Labs, a company dedicated to accelerating scientific research by simulating the physical world to train AI models.
The company has already assembled a team of nearly 100 professionals, including researchers from leading AI firms such as Meta, OpenAI, and Google DeepMind. This diverse talent pool underscores Project Prometheus’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the AI domain.
As of now, Amazon and Bajaj have not provided comments regarding this development.
