iPhone 17e Unveiled: A19 Chip Matches iPhone 17 Power but with Slight GPU Trade-Off

iPhone 17e Benchmarks Unveil A19 Chip’s Power with a Minor Trade-Off

The latest addition to Apple’s lineup, the iPhone 17e, has recently surfaced in the Geekbench 6 database, providing an in-depth look at the performance capabilities of its new A19 chip. The device achieved a multi-core CPU score of 9,241, closely mirroring the standard iPhone 17’s average score of 9,249. This similarity underscores the robust processing power shared between the two models.

However, a subtle distinction exists in their graphical performance. The iPhone 17e is equipped with a 4-core GPU, whereas the standard iPhone 17 boasts a 5-core GPU. This difference results in the iPhone 17e attaining Metal scores between 31,000 and 31,500, compared to the iPhone 17’s approximate score of 37,000. Despite this variance, the impact on everyday usage is minimal, and most users are unlikely to discern a significant difference in graphics performance.

For context, the previous-generation iPhone 16e, powered by the A18 chip, also featured a 4-core GPU. The table below illustrates the multi-core CPU scores across various iPhone models:

| iPhone Model | Multi-Core CPU Score |
|————————|———————-|
| iPhone 17 Pro (A19 Pro)| 9,805 |
| iPhone 17 (A19) | 9,249 |
| iPhone 17e (A19) | 9,241 |
| iPhone 16 Pro (A18 Pro)| 8,625 |
| iPhone 16e (A18) | 7,977 |
| iPhone 15 Pro (A17 Pro)| 7,199 |

Beyond its processing capabilities, the iPhone 17e introduces several notable enhancements over its predecessor, the iPhone 16e. These include the integration of MagSafe technology for magnetic wireless charging and accessory compatibility, the adoption of Apple’s second-generation C1X modem for accelerated 5G connectivity, and an increased base storage capacity of 256GB. Despite these upgrades, the iPhone 17e maintains the same starting price of $599 in the United States, consistent with the iPhone 16e’s launch price.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 17e commenced on March 4, with the official release slated for March 11.
