Granola Secures $125M Funding, Elevating Valuation to $1.5B Amid Enterprise AI Expansion
Granola, the AI-driven notetaking application, has successfully raised $125 million in a Series C funding round, propelling its valuation to $1.5 billion. This significant investment was led by Danny Rimer of Index Ventures, with participation from Mamoon Hamid at Kleiner Perkins. Existing investors, including Lightspeed, Spark, and NFDG, also contributed to this round. This latest funding brings Granola’s total capital raised to $192 million, following a $43 million Series B round less than a year prior.
Initially launched as a prosumer application designed to transcribe meetings and generate notes, Granola has been progressively enhancing its features to cater to enterprise needs. In the previous year, the company introduced collaborative functionalities, enabling team members to work together on notes. This strategic development has facilitated Granola’s integration into prominent enterprises such as Vanta, Gusto, Thumbtack, Asana, Cursor, Lovable, Decagon, and Mistral AI.
With the announcement of the new funding, Granola is unveiling a feature called Spaces. This addition allows teams to create dedicated workspaces, with the capability to organize content into specific folders. Spaces offer detailed access controls, ensuring that team members can manage permissions effectively. Users can also perform targeted queries within these Spaces and folders, enhancing the efficiency of information retrieval.
Recognizing the increasing commoditization of AI-generated meeting notes, Granola is taking proactive steps to differentiate its offerings. In February, the company introduced the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Building upon this foundation, Granola is now launching two new APIs designed to integrate the context of notes into AI workflows.
The first, a personal API, grants individual users access to their notes and those shared with them. This API is available to users subscribed to business and enterprise plans. The second, an enterprise API, provides administrators with tools to manage team contexts effectively. This API is exclusively available to enterprise users.
The introduction of these APIs addresses concerns raised by users, including an a16z partner, who expressed frustration over Granola’s previous decision to lock down its local database, which disrupted on-device AI agent workflows. Co-founder Chris Pedregal clarified that the local cache was not initially designed to support AI workflows, leading to the decision to modify data storage methods. This change inadvertently affected existing agent workflows. Pedregal assured users that Granola is committed to providing APIs that allow bulk data access and is actively working on solutions to integrate with local AI agents.
Granola’s recent funding and feature enhancements underscore its dedication to evolving from a simple meeting notetaker to a comprehensive enterprise AI application. By focusing on collaboration, integration, and user-centric design, Granola aims to solidify its position as a leader in the enterprise AI space.
