NotebookLM Enhances User Experience with Chat History and Introduces AI Ultra Tier
Google’s NotebookLM has recently introduced significant updates aimed at enhancing user experience and expanding its service offerings. The platform now features a comprehensive chat history function and has unveiled the AI Ultra subscription tier, catering to users with advanced needs.
Seamless Chat History Across Devices
The newly implemented chat history feature allows users to maintain and access their conversations across multiple devices, including web browsers and Android/iOS applications. Each interaction is timestamped with the corresponding day and date, providing a clear chronological record. Users can manage their chat history by selecting the three-dot overflow menu and choosing the Delete chat history option to start anew. Notably, in shared notebooks, chat histories remain private and are accessible only to the individual user. As of December 16, 2025, Google has confirmed that this feature has been fully deployed to all users across both mobile and web platforms.
Introduction of AI Ultra Subscription Tier
In addition to the chat history feature, Google has introduced the AI Ultra subscription tier, designed for users requiring extensive resources and capabilities. This new tier offers a substantial increase in usage limits compared to the existing AI Pro plan. Subscribers to AI Ultra, at a monthly fee of $250, receive:
– 5,000 chat interactions per day
– 200 Audio Overviews
– 200 Video Overviews
– 1,000 Reports
– 1,000 Flashcards
– 1,000 Quizzes
– 200 Deep Research generations daily
Furthermore, AI Ultra subscribers can incorporate up to 600 sources per notebook, doubling the capacity available to AI Pro users. The maximum number of users per notebook has also increased to 1,000, up from 500. Additional benefits include the highest limits for Infographic and Slide generation, as well as access to advanced Gemini models. A notable exclusive feature for AI Ultra users is the ability to remove watermarks from Infographics and Slide Decks, aligning with similar functionalities in other Google applications.
Enhancing User Engagement and Productivity
These updates reflect Google’s commitment to enhancing user engagement and productivity within the NotebookLM platform. The chat history feature ensures continuity and ease of access across devices, while the AI Ultra tier caters to power users seeking expanded capabilities and resources. These developments are poised to significantly improve the overall user experience, offering more flexibility and advanced tools for diverse user needs.
