NotebookLM Enhances User Experience with Prompt-Based Slide Revisions and Gemini 3.1 Pro Integration
Google’s NotebookLM has recently introduced a series of significant updates aimed at enhancing user experience and functionality. The most notable among these is the integration of Gemini 3.1 Pro and the addition of prompt-based slide revisions.
On February 18, 2026, Google rolled out its latest AI model, Gemini 3.1 Pro, to both the Gemini app and NotebookLM platforms. This update is available exclusively to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Gemini 3.1 Pro brings substantial improvements to core reasoning capabilities, enabling more sophisticated and accurate responses to complex queries.
In tandem with the Gemini 3.1 Pro integration, NotebookLM has introduced prompt-based slide revisions for web users. This feature allows users to customize their slide decks more intuitively. By accessing the Studio panel and selecting the pencil icon adjacent to the slide title, users are presented with a fullscreen interface. Here, they can input specific prompts to modify text, adjust colors, incorporate visuals, and more. Once the desired changes are made, clicking Generate new deck applies the revisions seamlessly. This functionality is now accessible to all NotebookLM users.
Expanding its export capabilities, NotebookLM now supports exporting slides in the PPTX format, in addition to the existing PDF option. Support for exporting directly to Google Slides is anticipated in the near future, further enhancing compatibility and user convenience.
The NotebookLM mobile application has also received noteworthy updates. Users on Android and iOS platforms can now customize Video Overviews, offering greater control over content presentation. Customization options include:
– Format: Choose between Explainer (default) or Brief formats.
– Source Selection: Specify which sources to include in the overview.
– Visual Style: Select from a variety of styles such as Auto-select, Custom, Classic, Whiteboard, Heritage, Paper-craft, Watercolor, Anime, Retro print, and Kawaii.
– Focus Areas: Utilize a prompt box to direct the AI hosts on specific topics or themes to emphasize.
– Language: Choose the preferred language for the overview.
These enhancements provide users with the flexibility to tailor content to their specific needs and preferences.
Additionally, the mobile app now offers the capability to open Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and other Drive files directly within their respective applications. If the corresponding app is not installed, the file will open in a new browser tab. This integration streamlines workflow and improves accessibility to various document types.
To further enhance user engagement, NotebookLM has introduced Chat Suggestions. This feature presents suggested questions within the chat interface to facilitate conversation initiation. As the interaction progresses, these suggestions dynamically adapt based on the context of the ongoing conversation, providing a more interactive and personalized user experience.
These updates underscore Google’s commitment to continually refining NotebookLM, ensuring it remains a versatile and user-centric platform for content creation and collaboration.
