Google Weather App Glitch on Wear OS Devices Leaves Users Unable to Access Data

Google Weather App Malfunction Affects Wear OS Devices

In September 2025, Google ceased offering its Weather app for new installations on Wear OS 6 devices, advising users to rely on default weather applications provided by device manufacturers or third-party alternatives. Existing users who had the app installed prior to upgrading to Wear OS 6 were assured continued functionality.

However, as of December 12, 2025, users of the original Pixel Watch and other Wear OS devices, including Samsung’s Galaxy Watch, have encountered a significant issue: the Google Weather app fails to load weather data. Upon opening the app, users are met with a Loading… screen that transitions to a Can’t download weather data error message, accompanied by a non-functional Retry button. This problem extends to the Forecast, Sun, and UV Index Tiles, displaying messages such as Loading weather and Couldn’t retrieve your location.

This widespread malfunction suggests a bug rather than an intentional deprecation. Reports indicate that Google is aware of the issue and is working on a resolution. In the interim, users can consider alternative weather applications available on the Play Store, such as AccuWeather, or utilize voice assistants like Gemini or Google Assistant to obtain weather updates without additional downloads.
