Google Photos Introduces Custom Sticker Creation for iOS Users

Google Photos has unveiled a new feature that empowers iPhone and iPad users to transform their personal photos into custom stickers. This functionality is available on devices running iOS 17 or later, with no current plans for an Android release.

How to Create Custom Stickers:

1. Open Google Photos: Launch the app and select a photo with a distinct subject in the foreground.

2. Subject Detection: The app will highlight the main subject with a shimmering effect.

3. Create Sticker: Press and hold on the highlighted subject to generate a sticker.

4. Share or Copy: Once created, you can either copy the sticker to your clipboard or share it directly through apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messages.

It’s important to note that these stickers are static and cannot be edited after creation. For optimal results, choose photos where the subject is clearly defined against the background.

Comparison with Apple’s Native Features:

This addition brings Google Photos closer to Apple’s native Photos app, which already offers a similar background-removal sticker option. However, the absence of this feature on Android devices is notable, especially since Samsung’s gallery app introduced subject-lifting capabilities several years ago.

Availability:

The custom sticker creation feature is currently exclusive to iOS users, with no announced timeline for an Android rollout.
