Google Photos has recently enhanced its Photo to Video feature, introducing custom prompts and audio integration to provide users with a more personalized and immersive experience.
Initially launched in July 2025, the Photo to Video feature allowed users to animate still images by selecting between two options: Subtle movement or I’m feeling lucky. These choices applied predefined animations to photos, adding a dynamic element to static images.
With the latest update, users can now input custom prompts to describe the desired movement, style, or effect for their photos. This functionality mirrors the capabilities found in Google’s Gemini app, where users can animate images based on specific descriptions. The interface also offers prompt suggestions, which can be edited and refined after the initial generation, allowing for greater creative control.
Another significant enhancement is the inclusion of audio by default in the generated videos. This feature was a key component of Veo 3, introduced in July 2025, and now brings a richer, more engaging dimension to the animations created within Google Photos.
The rollout of these updates is currently underway, with availability in the Create tab on both Android and iOS platforms. In addition to Photo to Video, the Create tab includes other creative tools such as Create with AI, Remix, Collage, Highlight video, Cinematic photo, Animation, and Me Meme.
Access to the Photo to Video feature is available to all users, with a set number of video generations per day. Subscribers to AI Pro and AI Ultra plans benefit from increased daily limits, enabling more extensive use of this creative tool.
These enhancements reflect Google’s ongoing commitment to integrating advanced AI capabilities into its suite of applications, empowering users to transform their static photos into dynamic, personalized videos with ease.
