Google Introduces AI-Driven Notification Summaries for Pixel Devices

Enhance Your Pixel Experience with AI-Powered Notification Summaries

Google has introduced a groundbreaking feature for Pixel devices: AI-driven Notification Summaries. This innovation aims to streamline your notification management by condensing lengthy messages and group chats into concise summaries, ensuring you stay informed without feeling overwhelmed.

Activating Notification Summaries

To enable this feature, navigate to your device’s Settings app, select ‘Notifications,’ and then tap on ‘Notification summaries.’ By default, this option is turned off, so you’ll need to activate it manually. Once enabled, you’ll have access to a ‘Don’t include these apps’ list, allowing you to exclude specific applications from being summarized. This list can be sorted by ‘Most recent,’ ‘Most frequent,’ or ‘All apps,’ providing flexibility in managing your notifications.

How It Works

The Notification Summaries feature utilizes on-device AI, specifically Google’s Gemini Nano, to process and summarize your messages. Importantly, this processing occurs entirely on your device, ensuring that your messages remain private and are never transmitted to Google. The AI focuses on summarizing long messages and group conversations, while short notifications, texts containing multiple languages, or messages composed solely of emojis are not summarized.

User Experience

When a notification is summarized, it will display a sparkle icon and appear in italics, distinguishing it from regular notifications. If you wish to view the full message thread, simply expand the notification. It’s worth noting that summaries are generated only when your device’s screen has been off for a short period. Additionally, if Battery Saver mode is active, the generation of summaries is disabled to conserve energy.

Device Compatibility

This feature is available on the following Pixel devices:

– Pixel 9
– Pixel 9 Pro
– Pixel 9 Pro XL
– Pixel 9 Pro Fold
– Pixel 10
– Pixel 10 Pro
– Pixel 10 Pro XL
– Pixel 10 Pro Fold

Ensure your device is running the latest version of Android System Intelligence (B.17) to access this feature.

Additional Features in the November 2025 Feature Drop

Alongside Notification Summaries, Google has introduced several other enhancements in the November 2025 Feature Drop:

– Scam Detection Expansion: The Scam Detection feature now extends to notifications from any chat app. Suspicious messages will be flagged with a Likely scam alert accompanied by a red shield icon. This enhancement is available on Pixel 6 and newer devices in the U.S.

– Call Notes Availability: The Call Notes feature, which records and transcribes calls using on-device AI, is now available in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Japan, and the U.K. for Pixel 9 and newer devices.

– Google Maps Power Saving Mode: A new Power Saving Mode in Google Maps offers a simplified navigation layout, displaying only essential information like the map and upcoming turns. This mode can extend battery life by up to four hours and is available on Pixel 10 series devices.

– Prioritization of Messages from VIP Contacts: Messages from designated VIP contacts in Google Messages or WhatsApp are now highlighted in yellow, with the contact’s photo appearing in the status bar, ensuring you never miss important communications.

Looking Ahead

In December, Google plans to introduce a feature that organizes and silences lower-priority notifications into categories such as News and Promotions, which will appear at the bottom of the notification shade. This upcoming enhancement aims to further declutter your notification experience.

By integrating AI-driven features like Notification Summaries, Google continues to enhance the user experience on Pixel devices, making daily interactions more efficient and personalized.
