Google Fi is introducing a series of significant updates aimed at improving user experience in messaging, browsing, and calling. These enhancements, set to roll out in the coming weeks, leverage Google AI to provide more seamless and high-quality communication services.
RCS Integration in Messages for Web
One of the standout features of this update is the integration of Rich Communication Services (RCS) into Google Fi’s Messages for web platform. This advancement allows users to send and receive high-resolution photos and videos directly from any computer or tablet’s web browser. The new interface not only supports RCS but also retains the ability to make calls and check voicemail onlineāa feature unique to Google Fi. This enhancement is scheduled to be available to Android users by early December.
Expansion of Wi-Fi Auto Connect+
Addressing the challenge of maintaining strong cellular signals in indoor environments, Google Fi is significantly expanding its premium Wi-Fi network, previously known as W+. The newly branded Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ will now be accessible in tens of millions of locations across the United States, including major airports such as LAX, ORD, and JFK, as well as participating shopping malls and stores. Notably, data usage over these automatic connections will not count against users’ monthly data caps. These connections are secured with a VPN, ensuring user privacy and security. When connected, users will see the W+ icon in their status bar.
Introduction of HD Calling and AI-Enhanced Audio
Google Fi is also rolling out HD calling capabilities, which will be indicated on the calling screen when active. This feature requires all parties to be on networks that support VoLTE, VoNR, or Wi-Fi Calling (WFC). In addition, for calls involving landlines or older devices, Google Fi will utilize AI-enhanced audio to automatically filter out background noise and clarify voices on both ends of the line, resulting in more natural-sounding conversations. Users will have the option to disable this feature through the Google Fi app. The AI-enhanced audio feature is expected to be available next month.
AI-Powered Billing Summaries
To further enhance user experience, Google Fi will introduce AI-powered summaries in billing statements. These summaries will provide clear explanations of charges, highlight any changes from the previous month, and detail how recent plan adjustments may affect future costs. This feature will be accessible via the Google Fi mobile app and website.
Promotional Offer
In celebration of these new features, Google Fi is offering a limited-time promotion: 50% off for 15 months when users switch to the Unlimited Essentials or Unlimited Plan. More details about this promotion are available on the Google Fi website.
These updates underscore Google Fi’s commitment to enhancing communication services through technological innovation, providing users with more reliable, high-quality, and user-friendly options.
