DOGE Employee Allegedly Exfiltrates Sensitive Social Security Data
A recent whistleblower complaint has brought to light serious allegations against a former software engineer from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The individual is accused of illicitly transferring extensive personal data from the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) onto a personal thumb drive. This data reportedly includes sensitive information on over 500 million Americans, encompassing Social Security numbers, birth details, citizenship status, and more.
The former DOGE employee, whose identity remains undisclosed, allegedly boasted to colleagues at his new position within a government contracting firm about possessing two highly restricted SSA databases: Numident and the Master Death File. These databases are known to contain comprehensive records of both living and deceased individuals, detailing personal identifiers and familial information.
Further compounding the gravity of the situation, the individual claimed to have had unrestricted God-level access to SSA systems during his tenure at DOGE. Such access would have granted him the ability to view and manipulate vast amounts of sensitive data without oversight.
In response to these allegations, an SSA spokesperson, still under DOGE’s administration, dismissed the claims, labeling them as desperate for clicks and eager to publish fake news to scare seniors. However, the SSA’s inspector general’s office, operating independently from the current administration, has initiated an investigation into the whistleblower’s assertions.
This incident is not isolated. In January, reports emerged of two DOGE members allegedly accessing and disseminating Social Security numbers to assist an advocacy group aiming to challenge election outcomes in specific states. Additionally, a whistleblower previously accused DOGE personnel of compromising the security of hundreds of millions of Social Security records by uploading them to a vulnerable cloud server. These events culminated in a federal judge restricting DOGE’s access to SSA systems, criticizing the agency for conducting a fishing expedition in search of fraud without substantial justification.
The unfolding revelations underscore the critical importance of stringent data security measures and the potential risks posed by unauthorized access to sensitive governmental databases.
