In 2025, Canva, the renowned design platform, achieved a significant milestone by reaching $4 billion in annual recurring revenue (ARR). This impressive growth was driven by a 20% increase in monthly active users, culminating in over 265 million users, including more than 31 million paying subscribers. The company’s business-to-business (B2B) segment also experienced remarkable expansion, doubling its ARR to $500 million, particularly among organizations with more than 25 seats.

A substantial portion of this success can be attributed to Canva’s strategic investment in artificial intelligence (AI). The introduction of AI-powered tools, such as the capability for users to create mini apps and websites, has resonated with the user base, attracting over 10 million monthly active users to these features. This innovation has positioned Canva as a design agency in your pocket, offering users intuitive and powerful design solutions.

To further enhance its AI capabilities, Canva acquired Leonardo.ai in July 2024. This acquisition bolstered Canva’s generative AI efforts, enabling the integration of advanced AI models into its platform. Leonardo.ai’s expertise in creating and training AI models for image generation across various industries has been instrumental in expanding Canva’s AI-driven offerings.

Canva’s AI initiatives have also led to increased integration with large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and Claude. By October 2025, users had engaged in over 26 million conversations with the Canva app on ChatGPT, making Canva one of the top 10 referred domains from ChatGPT. This integration has not only enhanced user engagement but also contributed to a significant rise in referral traffic from LLMs.

In response to growing competition from companies like Adobe, Freepik, and Apple’s Creator Studio, Canva is shifting its focus to become an AI-centric platform complemented by a suite of design tools. This strategic pivot aims to provide users with a more seamless and intelligent design experience, reinforcing Canva’s position in the market.

Geographically, while North America remains Canva’s primary market, the company is experiencing growth in international regions. To attract more paying users globally, Canva has introduced lower-priced subscriptions in countries such as Pakistan, Uruguay, Morocco, and Jamaica, making its services more accessible to a diverse audience.

Looking ahead, Canva is allocating resources to enhance its visibility in LLM search results and improve its search engine optimization (SEO) strategies.
