Beeple Unveils Regular Animals with $100K Robotic Dogs at Art Basel Miami Beach

Beeple’s Bold Fusion: Robotic Dogs Meet Iconic Faces at Art Basel Miami Beach

At the prestigious Art Basel Miami Beach, digital artist Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple, unveiled his latest provocative installation, Regular Animals. This groundbreaking project features robotic dogs, each valued at $100,000, adorned with hyper-realistic heads of renowned figures such as Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Pablo Picasso, and Andy Warhol. Notably, Beeple included his own likeness among these luminaries, a decision he described as ballsy. To his surprise, the robotic dog bearing his visage was the first to be sold.

The robotic canines are not mere static sculptures; they are dynamic entities roaming within a plexiglass enclosure. Equipped with chest-mounted cameras, these robots capture images of their surroundings. These images are processed by artificial intelligence and then printed from the robots’ hindquarters. Among the prints produced, 256 contain QR codes that grant collectors access to free NFTs, presented in bags labeled Excrement Sample.

Beeple’s inclusion of his own image alongside such esteemed personalities underscores his audacious approach to art. This isn’t his first foray into the art world’s spotlight. Four years prior, his digital collage sold at Christie’s for a staggering $69 million, igniting a surge in the NFT market that peaked a year later before experiencing a significant downturn.

Regular Animals serves as a commentary on the intersection of technology, art, and celebrity culture. By merging robotic technology with the faces of influential figures, Beeple challenges viewers to reflect on the evolving nature of art and its relationship with modern society.

The installation is available for public viewing at Art Basel Miami Beach through Sunday, offering attendees a unique opportunity to experience this fusion of art and technology firsthand.
