iOS 27 to Introduce System-Wide Liquid Glass Customization
Apple is poised to enhance user interface personalization with the upcoming iOS 27 update, focusing on the Liquid Glass design language. This design, introduced in iOS 26, is characterized by its fluid, glass-like aesthetics that dynamically interact with background elements, offering a more immersive visual experience.
In iOS 26.1, users were given the option to select between Clear and Tinted appearances for Liquid Glass, with the Tinted setting adding opacity to interface elements. Building upon this, iOS 26.2 introduced a slider allowing manual adjustment of the Lock Screen clock’s opacity, providing users with more control over their device’s appearance.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is now aiming to expand this customization across the entire operating system in iOS 27. This system-wide Liquid Glass slider would enable users to fine-tune the opacity and transparency levels of various UI components, tailoring the visual experience to individual preferences.
Initially, Apple faced engineering challenges when attempting to implement this feature system-wide in iOS 26. However, the company has revisited the concept and is working to overcome these obstacles for the iOS 27 release. Gurman notes that while the feature is in development, its inclusion in the final version of iOS 27 is still to be determined.
Beta testing for iOS 27 is expected to commence in June, with a public release anticipated in September. This update underscores Apple’s commitment to providing users with greater control over their device’s interface, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.
