Apple Vision Pro’s Black Strap Leak Hints at Potential New Color Variants
Recent developments suggest that Apple may be exploring new color options for its Apple Vision Pro headset. A photograph shared by Apple prototype collector Kosutami on X (formerly Twitter) showcases a black power strap, complete with a circular connector to the battery pack and an Audio Pod. This contrasts sharply with the current light-colored design of the Vision Pro and its accessories.
The image reveals components predominantly in black, with subtle light gray indicators for fastening and a white dot. This color scheme has not been officially released, sparking speculation about Apple’s internal testing of alternative aesthetics.
In April, Kosutami shared images of a graphite or dark blue version of the battery connector, featuring a Lightning-style plug at one end. The accompanying text included the hashtag Apple Internal, suggesting these were prototypes used exclusively within Apple.
It’s common for companies like Apple to experiment with various color options during product development. For instance, early reports about the Apple Watch Ultra indicated considerations for a dark titanium edition, which eventually materialized. However, some designs are tested and later discarded based on various factors, including production feasibility and market demand.
Internal prototypes often feature distinct color schemes to differentiate them from production units. This black strap could be a test unit, a potential future model, or a design that was ultimately set aside. Given the complexity and low production volume of the Vision Pro, Apple may have prioritized a single color option for the initial release.
Looking ahead, there is speculation about a lighter version of the headset, possibly named Apple Vision Air, expected around 2027. This model might incorporate titanium to reduce weight and could introduce more color options, including an iPhone 5-era black, as suggested by Kosutami in April.
