Apple Vision Pro Developer Strap Set for Anticipated Upgrade

Apple is poised to release an enhanced version of the Developer Strap for its Apple Vision Pro headset, as indicated by a recent update on the company’s Developer site. The Developer Strap, initially introduced as a $300 accessory, enables developers to establish a USB-C connection between the Apple Vision Pro and a Mac, facilitating data transfer and application testing.

The visionOS Resources page on Apple’s Developer site now features a note stating that the Developer Strap will be Available to order on 10/22. This update suggests that Apple is preparing to launch a second-generation model of the accessory, although no formal announcement has been made.

The original Developer Strap was designed to replace the right-hand audio assembly of the Apple Vision Pro, allowing developers to connect the headset to a Mac via USB-C. This connection enabled data transfer and provided a video feed from the headset viewable in Reality Composer Pro. However, the physical connection offered USB 2 speeds, which limited its bandwidth capabilities.

Developers have expressed concerns about the performance of the original Developer Strap. Some reported that the connection speed was comparable to Wi-Fi, questioning the value of the $300 accessory. The new Developer Strap may address these concerns by offering improved data transfer speeds, potentially supporting USB 3.2 Gen 2 or even Thunderbolt connections.

In addition to the Developer Strap, Apple has recently introduced other accessories for the Apple Vision Pro. The Dual Knit Band, priced at $99, is designed to provide a more comfortable fit for users. Apple has also announced the availability of the Logitech Muse, a spatial accessory similar to the Logitech Crayon, priced at $129.95. Furthermore, the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller and Controller Charging Station will be available for $249.95, with a release date set for November 11, 2025.

These developments indicate Apple’s commitment to enhancing the Apple Vision Pro ecosystem by providing developers and users with improved accessories and tools. The anticipated upgrade to the Developer Strap is expected to offer a more efficient and reliable connection between the headset and Mac, addressing previous performance limitations and supporting the development of more sophisticated applications.
