Apple TV to Include MLS Games in Standard Subscription Starting Next Season
In a significant move for sports streaming, Apple has announced that starting next season, all Major League Soccer (MLS) games will be accessible to Apple TV subscribers without the need for an additional MLS Season Pass. This integration means that the previously separate MLS Season Pass, which was priced at $79 per year for Apple TV members, will be discontinued. Instead, all MLS content will be incorporated into the standard Apple TV subscription, currently priced at $12.99 per month in the U.S. or available as part of the Apple One bundle.
This strategic shift is expected to enhance the value proposition of the Apple TV service and is anticipated to boost viewership for MLS. Previously, only a select number of games each season were available without the MLS Season Pass. For instance, all 2025 playoff matches were accessible to all subscribers. However, the majority of the regular season required the additional Season Pass subscription.
Analysts have suggested that the extra paywall may have hindered the growth and exposure of MLS in the U.S., particularly among younger audiences. By eliminating this barrier, Apple aims to attract a broader audience to MLS content. Estimates indicate that the MLS Season Pass had approximately 1-2 million subscribers worldwide, whereas Apple TV boasts over 50 million subscribers. This change is expected to significantly increase the reach of MLS games.
With this integration, Apple TV’s live sports offerings in 2026 will be notably expanded. Subscribers in the U.S. will have access to MLS games, MLB Friday Night Baseball, and Formula 1 races, all included in the standard subscription. While Apple may forgo some incremental revenue by removing the Season Pass model, the company anticipates that the increased appeal of Apple TV will attract more subscribers. Additionally, Apple plans to capitalize on higher advertising rates during live broadcasts, given the expected increase in viewership.
For MLS club season ticket holders, the previous benefit of a complimentary MLS Season Pass will be replaced with a free Apple TV subscription, provided per season ticket account. This adjustment ensures that loyal fans continue to enjoy seamless access to their favorite teams’ games.
