Apple Inc. has announced plans to permanently close its retail store at The Mall at Partridge Creek in Clinton Township, Michigan. This location, which has been serving customers since 2007, is set to cease operations by mid-August 2025. While Apple has not provided a specific reason for the closure, the company has confirmed that all current employees will be offered opportunities to continue their roles within the organization.
The decision to close the Partridge Creek store comes amid reports that the mall has been facing financial difficulties. Local news outlets have previously reported that The Mall at Partridge Creek had entered receivership and was struggling to retain tenants. This situation mirrors a recent closure of another Apple Store in Northbrook, Illinois, which was also located in a declining mall environment.
Despite the closure, Apple remains committed to its presence in Michigan. The company has confirmed plans to open a new retail store in Downtown Detroit later this year. This new location will be situated on Woodward Avenue, between the Shinola Hotel and the former Hudson’s building, now the headquarters of General Motors. The exact address is believed to be between 1426 and 1434 Woodward Avenue, a site currently under renovation and owned by Bedrock Real Estate.
The new Downtown Detroit store will be Apple’s fourth location in the Detroit metropolitan area and the seventh in the state of Michigan. Existing stores include Apple Twelve Oaks in Novi, Apple Somerset in Troy, and Apple Briarwood in Ann Arbor. The addition of the Downtown Detroit store aligns with the city’s ongoing revitalization efforts and is expected to boost foot traffic and economic activity in the area.
Apple’s investment in Detroit extends beyond retail. In 2021, the company partnered with Michigan State University to launch the Apple Developer Academy, providing training in coding, design, and entrepreneurship. This initiative reflects Apple’s commitment to supporting the local tech ecosystem and fostering innovation within the community.
The closure of the Partridge Creek store and the opening of the new Downtown Detroit location are part of Apple’s broader strategy to adapt its retail footprint in response to changing consumer habits and market conditions. By focusing on high-traffic urban centers and investing in new locations, Apple aims to enhance the customer experience and maintain its strong presence in key markets.
