Apple Suspends In-App Purchases in Russia Amid Ongoing Sanctions

Apple Halts In-App Purchases and Subscriptions in Russia Amid Sanctions

In a significant move reflecting the escalating geopolitical tensions, Apple has ceased processing payments for the App Store and other services in Russia as of April 1, 2026. This decision effectively prevents Russian users from initiating new purchases or renewing subscriptions unless they possess sufficient funds in their Apple Account balance. The suspension encompasses a broad spectrum of Apple’s digital services, including Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts subscriptions, Apple One, App Store transactions, Apple TV purchases, iTunes Store acquisitions, iCloud+, and ringtone purchases.

Apple has communicated that users can continue to utilize any remaining balance in their Apple Account for purchases and subscription renewals. Additionally, previously purchased App Store codes can still be redeemed. Users will retain access to apps and content they have already acquired, with the possibility of receiving updates for these applications. However, active subscriptions will automatically terminate if Apple is unable to process payments due to the imposed restrictions. Notably, Apple has assured that iCloud data will remain accessible even after an iCloud+ subscription expires, allowing users to manage storage and download files without disruption.

This development follows pressure from Russian authorities after Apple removed certain local apps in compliance with international sanctions. The cessation of payment processing directly impacts how Russian users access paid digital services within Apple’s ecosystem.
