Apple has released iPadOS 26 beta 4 to developers, marking a significant step in the beta cycle for this year’s iPad software. This build is anticipated to become the first public beta, providing a broader user base with early access to the new operating system before its official release.
The release aligns with Apple’s typical two-week beta schedule. Beta 3 was introduced just over two weeks ago, bringing several interface and performance enhancements. Beta 4 continues this trajectory, focusing on refining and stabilizing the operating system. While Apple has not confirmed if this will be the final public-facing beta before the stable release, indications suggest it is heading in that direction.
What’s New in Beta 4
This build reintroduces notification summaries for news apps and adjusts the visual appearance of the Liquid Glass effect. These minor tweaks are part of a broader series of changes initiated in earlier betas. iPadOS 26 beta 3 included updates to Control Center, a new system ringtone, more responsive wallpaper animations, and overall user interface refinements.
Developers can install beta 4 through Apple’s Developer Program or directly from the device’s Settings by navigating to General > Software Update and selecting iPadOS 26 Developer Beta. Apple recommends using a dedicated testing device and backing up data beforehand.
For users not enrolled in the Developer Program, the Apple Beta Software Program is expected to provide access to this same build soon.
If you’re testing this release, ensure your device is backed up and report any bugs through Apple’s Feedback Assistant. Public testers should see the update appear within days, if not hours.
