iOS 18.6, released on July 29, introduced several improvements, including bug fixes, security enhancements, and a resolution for a performance issue within the Photos app’s Memories feature. Additionally, it implemented changes to the management of third-party app marketplaces in the European Union.
Subsequent updates brought further refinements. iOS 18.6.1 reinstated blood oxygen measurement capabilities for Apple Watch users in the United States, addressing a critical health monitoring feature. Following this, iOS 18.6.2 delivered a significant security update, patching vulnerabilities to bolster device protection.
By discontinuing the signing of iOS 18.6, Apple aims to ensure that devices operate on the most secure and feature-rich versions of its operating system. This practice not only safeguards users from potential security threats present in older software but also aligns with Apple’s standard procedure of phasing out support for previous iOS versions as newer ones become available.
