Anduril’s Long Beach Expansion: A New Era for Autonomous Fighter Jets
Defense technology innovator Anduril Industries has unveiled plans to establish a significant campus in Long Beach, California, marking a strategic expansion in the region. This development is set to create approximately 5,500 new jobs, encompassing roles in manufacturing, engineering, assembly, and logistics. The forthcoming 1.18 million-square-foot facility will integrate office spaces with industrial areas dedicated to research and development, with completion anticipated by mid-2027.
Founder Palmer Luckey emphasized Long Beach’s status as a prominent aerospace hub and expressed enthusiasm about the facility’s capability to produce autonomous fighter jets. These advanced aircraft are designed to depart directly from the factory to their operational destinations, potentially engaging in combat missions immediately upon deployment.
Anduril’s portfolio includes autonomous military drones and aircraft for land, air, and sea operations. In 2025, the company introduced Fury, an AI-powered fighter jet capable of executing flight plans autonomously. The Fury successfully completed its inaugural test flight in California on October 31, 2025.
This expansion aligns with Anduril’s broader strategy to enhance defense production capabilities. In August 2024, the company secured $1.5 billion in funding, valuing it at $14 billion, to scale its manufacturing operations. Subsequently, in January 2025, Anduril announced plans to invest nearly $1 billion in a 5-million-square-foot manufacturing facility in Columbus, Ohio, expected to generate 4,000 jobs.
The Long Beach campus represents a significant milestone in Anduril’s mission to revolutionize defense technology through innovation and strategic growth.
