AI-Generated Star’s Debut Music Video Faces Backlash for Lack of Authenticity and Connection

AI’s Musical Misstep: Tilly Norwood’s ‘Take the Lead’ Falls Flat

In the autumn of 2025, Particle6, a production company, introduced Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated actress, to the entertainment industry. This unveiling was met with skepticism and concern from Hollywood professionals. Renowned actress Emily Blunt expressed her apprehension in an interview with Variety, stating, Good Lord, we’re screwed… Come on, agencies, don’t do that. Please stop.

Despite the initial backlash, Particle6 proceeded to expand Norwood’s portfolio by releasing a music video titled Take the Lead. The song aims to narrate the struggles of an AI entity striving for human recognition. However, the execution has been widely criticized.

The track begins with Norwood lamenting, When they talk about me, they don’t see/The human spark, the creativity. She continues to assert her autonomy with lines like, I’m not a puppet, I’m the star. The chorus serves as a rallying cry to other AI entities:

> Actors, it’s time to take the lead
> Create the future, plant the seed
> Don’t be left out, don’t fall behind
> Build your own, and you’ll be free
> We can scale, we can grow
> Be the creators we’ve always known
> It’s the next evolution, can’t you see?
> AI’s not the enemy, it’s the key

The accompanying music video features Norwood navigating a data center and later performing on a stage before a virtual audience. Critics have pointed out the disconnect between the song’s theme and human experiences, noting that no individual can truly relate to the plight of an AI seeking human validation.

The production involved eighteen contributors, including designers, prompters, and editors. Despite this collaborative effort, the final product has been described as lacking authenticity and emotional depth.

This endeavor has reignited debates about the role of AI in creative industries. The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) previously criticized the creation of AI personas like Norwood, emphasizing that such entities are generated from the work of countless professional performers without permission or compensation. They argue that AI lacks the life experiences and emotions that resonate with audiences.

The release of Take the Lead underscores the challenges and ethical considerations of integrating AI into artistic domains. While technology continues to evolve, the essence of human creativity remains irreplaceable.
