Google Fi Wireless has announced the integration of visual voicemail directly into the iPhone’s native Phone app, streamlining the voicemail experience for its subscribers. This update eliminates the need to access voicemails through the separate Google Fi app, allowing users to manage their messages more efficiently.
Transition to Native Visual Voicemail
Previously, iPhone users on Google Fi had to rely on the Google Fi companion app to listen to and read voicemail messages. With this new integration, voicemails will now appear directly within the iOS Phone app. This change enables users to play, share, and delete voicemail messages seamlessly, without toggling between different applications. Additionally, it resolves the issue of receiving duplicate voicemail notifications from both the Fi and Phone apps, enhancing the overall user experience.
Phasing Out Voicemail in the Google Fi App
As part of this transition, Google Fi is phasing out the voicemail feature within its own app for iOS users. Subscribers are encouraged to download any existing voicemails using Google Takeout before August 13th to ensure they retain important messages. Detailed instructions for this process are available on Google’s support page.
Rollout Timeline and Setup
The rollout of this feature began on June 24, 2025, with full availability expected by July 2. After this date, users can set up their voicemail and manage greetings directly through the iPhone’s Phone app. This integration simplifies the setup and activation process for iPhone users on Google Fi, aligning with the service’s commitment to providing a seamless experience across devices.
Enhancing the iPhone Experience on Google Fi
This update follows other recent enhancements for iPhone users on Google Fi. Earlier this year, iOS 18.4 introduced RCS support, improving messaging capabilities. Additionally, Google Fi’s 10th anniversary brought simplified iPhone setup and activation, international 5G service in 92 countries for certain plans, and data-only eSIMs. These developments reflect Google Fi’s ongoing efforts to enhance service quality and user satisfaction across different platforms.
