WhatsApp is enhancing its Events feature with shareable invites and a new central hub, just in time for the holiday season. The new update allows organizers to create event invites and distribute them via link, email, or QR code. Notably, guests without a WhatsApp account can view essential event details and RSVP, though they’ll only see the event address after confirming their attendance.
What’s New: Invite Links, QR Codes & Privacy Controls
Previously, events could only be set up within group or one-on-one chats. With this version, a shareable invite link and QR code make it easier to invite people outside of WhatsApp. When sending invites, the event organizer can include a cover photo, manage plus-one options, and set custom reminders. Privacy protections are also in place: unfamiliar guests won’t see the organizer’s phone number, and non-WhatsApp users only get address visibility after RSVPing.
A Central Events Hub for All Your RSVPs
WhatsApp has added a dedicated Events section in the app’s settings. This hub provides a consolidated dashboard where users can see all events they’ve organized or been invited to, whether upcoming or past. From here, event creators can manage RSVPs, issue reminders, handle plus-one settings, and update details, all in one place.
The rollout for this update has already begun and is expected to reach all users within the next few weeks.
Why it matters: WhatsApp is making it dramatically easier to coordinate events with people both inside and outside its platform. By adding RSVP links, QR codes, and better invite privacy, it’s targeting more versatile use cases—everything from casual get-togethers to larger gatherings. The new hub boosts organization for users who manage many events or frequently RSVP to others’. It also brings WhatsApp closer to rival apps that already offer robust event management. Moving forward, keep an eye out for how these features evolve—particularly how the company handles spamming or misuse, plus any further privacy protections.
