Apple’s latest tweaks in iOS 27 are fine-tuning the experience for the upcoming iPhone Duo, and one of the more useful changes centers on Focus mode controls directly from the lock screen. In preview footage from developer pdfu, a new toggle appears above the flashlight and camera icons—letting users disable and re-enable the active Focus setting without unlocking or opening the phone. This particular innovation shows up only when a Focus mode is actually in use, giving quick access to exit or re-enter it from the locked screen. The active Focus status is also displayed above the clock in the status bar.
Interface Adjusted for Duo’s Unique Form
The iPhone Duo’s folding hardware has prompted several customizations to iOS 27. For example, the dock is no longer fixed at the bottom of the outer display; it now lives on the right-hand side. In another key adaptation, opening the Duo causes the outer screen to blur and become nearly transparent, blending into its surroundings. These visual and layout shifts are intended to take full advantage of the folding design.
Context and Wider Adds
The developer also shared evidence of other unannounced features emerging in the iPhone Duo’s software. These include StandBy mode views on both the Duo and HomePad, along with new HomePad color scheme options.
These interface tweaks follow earlier adaptations we saw for Duo, such as its dock relocation and edge-aware layouts. Focus mode is Apple’s system for filtering notifications and distractions, and making it accessible from the lock screen streamlines one of the core uses: avoiding disturbance during meetings or other situations without fumbling through settings or physical device locks.
What this means & what to watch: Allowing toggling of Focus mode right from the lock screen could become one of the signature usability upgrades for foldables. The iPhone Duo is clearly pushing Apple to rethink how its system responds to new form factors. We’ll be looking to see if these features remain when the Duo launches, and whether similar lock screen tools arrive on non-folding iPhones via iOS 27 updates.
