macOS 26.2 recently introduced a feature called Edge Light, which surrounds the screen’s edges with adjustable illumination to act like a ring light and brighten users’ faces in dim environments. Now, evidence suggests Apple plans to bring Edge Light to iPhones.
What Edge Light does on Mac
The Edge Light feature, launched with macOS 26.2 and supported by Macs with Apple silicon from the M1 chip onward, is designed to create even face lighting under low-light conditions. Users can adjust the width of the lighted border and tweak its color temperature to make it cooler or warmer.
Edge Light coming to iPhone Duo via iOS 27
Code found in the iOS 27 Release Candidate indicates Edge Light support will arrive at least on the upcoming iPhone Duo model. The setting for color temperature is present, though that specific control is noted to be only partially implemented currently. Researchers also found previews of Edge Light in action on a simulated iPhone, showing the same brightness control and warm-to-cool light color settings.
There’s no confirmation yet whether Edge Light will ship with the iPhone Duo’s launch on October 23, or whether it will be included on other iPhone models. Since the feature is still under development, users should expect some limitations initially.
The developer who discovered the code has a strong history of accurately identifying Apple’s hidden features, adding credibility to the claim. Their findings consistently turn up during beta stages well before public release.

Bringing Edge Light from Mac to iPhone could improve video calls, selfies, and content creation in low light—especially on a device meant to be carried everywhere.
