Both models keep the familiar styling of last year’s Pro series, with the iPhone 18 Pro sporting a 6.3-inch screen and the Pro Max stretching to 6.9 inches. Under the hood, the new models are powered by the A20 Pro chip, which pushes sustained performance up to 40% beyond the outgoing A19 Pro. Apple also expanded the vapor-chamber cooling system to three times the size used in the 17 Pro models, aiming to better handle heat during intense use.
Battery life has seen one of the biggest leaps. The standard 18 Pro now matches what the 17 Pro Max offered, delivering around 24 hours of typical usage. The 18 Pro Max eclipses that with up to 30 hours per charge—described as the largest generational jump to date. In terms of charging, Apple claims the Pro can hit 50% battery in just 15 minutes.
Camera Overhaul
Both phones adopt a 48-megapixel “Main” Fusion camera with a novel variable aperture mechanism. Thanks to six precisely crafted blades, the lens can shift aperture settings to better control depth of field and adapt to lighting scenarios—this aims to improve low-light shots, refine group photos, and enable more expressive compositions. Supporting the hardware is a revamped computational imaging pipeline, alongside new texture and grain settings in the supply of Photographic Styles, giving photographers more creative control over tone and finish.
Pricing, Storage & Availability
Pricing starts at $1,199 for the iPhone 18 Pro and $1,299 for the Pro Max in the United States. A first for the Pro lineup: Apple is now offering 2TB storage for both models. Preorders kick off on September 12, with devices arriving in stores and shipping to customers starting September 18.
