Calendly, renowned for its scheduling and meeting booking software, has unveiled a new AI-driven note-taking feature designed to enhance productivity by automating post-meeting tasks. This development positions Calendly alongside other players in the burgeoning market of AI meeting assistants.
The new feature integrates seamlessly with popular video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. Once activated, it records audio and video during meetings, transcribes the content, and generates concise summaries, action items, and draft follow-up emails. Additionally, Calendly is testing a functionality that utilizes system audio to transcribe meetings, broadening its applicability across various meeting environments.
Looking ahead, Calendly plans to introduce an AI assistant named Callie. This assistant will leverage Calendly’s existing scheduling infrastructure to set up meetings, check participants’ availability, and provide context from previous meetings, thereby streamlining the scheduling process.
Tope Awotona, CEO of Calendly, emphasized the company’s focus on automating workflows for professionals in client-facing roles, such as sales and marketing, who often manage numerous meetings daily. By reducing the manual effort involved in post-meeting tasks, Calendly aims to enhance efficiency for these users.
The market for AI-powered meeting assistants is becoming increasingly competitive. Established note-taking applications like Granola, Fireflies, Read AI, Otter, and Fathom offer similar services. Moreover, productivity platforms such as Notion, ClickUp, and Wispr have incorporated note-taking assistants into their suites, intensifying the competition.
Despite this crowded landscape, Awotona believes there is significant potential in automating tasks that follow meeting transcriptions. He noted that while many note-takers effectively record and transcribe meetings, substantial work remains in managing the subsequent tasks, presenting an opportunity for Calendly’s new feature to add value.
Addressing privacy concerns, especially in light of allegations against some competitors, Calendly has implemented measures to ensure transparency. The note-taking assistant notifies all meeting participants when recording begins by sending a message in the chat. Participants have the option to stop the recording at any time by typing a specific command. Additionally, Calendly’s integration with scheduling systems allows for prior notification to attendees about the recording, ensuring informed consent.
By introducing this AI-powered note-taking feature, Calendly aims to provide a comprehensive solution that not only simplifies scheduling but also enhances the overall meeting experience.
